The Heather Hurley Foundation for the Prevention of Domestic Violence is a certified, New York State 501(c )(3) Nonprofit organization named after my mom who lost her life to Domestic Violence.
At the age of 40, and after many years of enduring torture in an abusive marriage, my mother was shot to death in our home on a cold November night. My two siblings and I were subsequently orphaned and placed into a home that was not our own. Together, we faced inordinate challenges within our new surroundings but our faith in God carried us through it all. Children are the most silent of victims...

As I grew to adulthood, the need to help other victims of domestic abuse grew inside of me. I became an advocate for domestic violence awareness by providing educational materials to the public and referring individuals to services to assist them. This venture grew into speaking engagements, authoring my first book entitled, “The End of November-Growing Up with Domestic Violence” (available on Amazon and Authorhouse.com) , and my annual DV Awareness fundraiser, “Purple Power!” (every October).
I thought that establishing a nonprofit organization would increase my ability to help my community. Therefore, I set out to set up the Heather Hurley Foundation for the Prevention of Domestic Violence.
Although helping victims with immediate assistance is very fulfilling, I believe that Prevention of violence is needed to create lasting change. As a result, the Heather Hurley Foundation partnered with Bloom365.
BLOOM365
Bloom365 is a non-profit teen dating abuse prevention organization based in Arizona, that believes that outreach, education, and awareness are vital for reducing future victimization (secondary prevention) and supporting survivors after victimization (tertiary prevention). Studies have shown that Peer to Peer advocacy in schools will prevent the root causes of dating abuse/sexual violence BEFORE it begins (primary prevention). The Heather Hurley Foundation strives to bring this successful initiative to NYC schools, but we need your help. Donate at
